The Need For Competition - And Response
posted August 21, 2008

We are seeing a prime example of the need for competition with the current political debate. We have many in our society that tell us that competition is bad as someone will lose. We are seeing how two men handle debate and thus we begin to learn more about them. As a conservative I learned a great deal about both of these men.

McCain for the first time sounded like a conservative. He was confident and sure of his answers. He did not have to think about his core beliefs nor did he have to hesitate with nuance so he wouldn't offend someone. His base could never be offended by what he said because it came from his soul. I still am not sure how he would run the government but his personal philosophy is conservative.

Obama provided proof that he is a liberal in his philosophy. He wants to help everyone by using the tax money of all Americans to expand government. Liberals do not see evil and good. He sees nuance in everything. He cannot tell us his inner truth because most Americans do not want their government expanding to something like Europe.

A great example of the liberal mind set was with the question concerning evil. Rev. Warren asked both does evil exist and if it does should it be ignored or defeated. McCain said it should be defeated and the example of evil is Al Qaeda. Obama would not say it should be defeated because he doesn't believe it can be. His example of evil was Darfar and the problems like crime in America. Darfar is evil but it isn't being confronted because unless America sends in our military (which liberals dislike doing since that means talking can't solve evil). That is why Obama can't see that butchers like Al Qaeda are true evil and someone who doesn't believe in global warming is not evil. His fall back example of evil is all of us because we use energy, we don't want to pay more taxes because they are too high now, and we believe that America is the greatest good for this world not the greatest evil.

Through competition we see these types of differences and we can learn from this race the type of President we can elect. This is just one question and there were many others that showed the difference in these two men. I hope everyone who reads this has or will listen to this debate because it was well done.

Once again, Mr. Caldwell, you are demonstrating your inability or your unwillingness to comprehend liberalism. You don't have to agree with it, but at least try to understand it.

I am a liberal and am also a Bible-believing Christian, so I can assure you that I have very clear ideas about good and evil and I have no doubt they both exist. Therefore, your broad assertion that "Liberals do not see evil and good" is 100% untrue.

You need to understand that liberals like myself only want to send American troops into harm's way as the last possible recourse and for the right reasons (unlike President Bush did in Iraq). To me, that's not weak on defense, that's the best way to support our military and is the best use of our resources. Oh, and Jesus did say "Blessed are the peacemakers." What a liberal He could be sometimes!

By the way, the reason why sending troops into Darfur would never happen isn't because liberals didn't want to (we did want to!), but because conservatives didn't want to. And why is that? Because there's no oil in Darfur. Remember, President Clinton was a liberal and he attacked Yugoslavia for a good reason - to stop genocide. Bush would never have done that. He just would have given a stern press conference. So you may need to re-think your assertions about the nature of liberalism. Again, not so that you can agree with it necessarily, but just so that you'll know what you're talking about.

Lastly, liberals believe al Qaeda is as evil as you do, Mr. Caldwell. That's why most of us supported attacking Afghanistan. But don't forget, al Qaeda was not in Iraq until we cleared the way for them. We do want to fight evil. We just want to try diplomacy first, and when that fails, fight for the right reasons, fight intelligently and with honor - not using torture, lest we become evil ourselves.
