A Delightful Time At Easy Bistro & Bar by Janet Wilson posted August 22, 2008
In addition to the decor, the menu has changed as well. On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., Easy features Brunch. We were with friends from out-of-town, and everyone kept going back and forth, trying to decide what to order. There were simply too many tempting items to choose from. If you want breakfast, just a few items on the menu are buttermilk biscuits, Beignets, Blueberry-Lemon Muffins, Eggs Benedict Crabmeat Omelets, and scrambled eggs with puff pastry, wild mushrooms and Gruyere. Breakfast prices range from $2 to $13. The six at our table opted to have lunch. Two ordered Fried Grouper Sandwiches with Tartar ($10) and one Fried Oyster Po’Boy ($13). Sandwiches are served with fresh cut fries (NOT those awful frozen ones). Easy is very accommodating. We had mentioned wanting the fried oysters, but not in a Po’Boy (minus the bread). Our server, Stephen, said they would be happy to prepare the oysters without the sandwich, so that worked out well. One of our friends, who hails from the New England area, said she compares oysters to the fresh ones she ate in New England, and felt these ranked right up near the top! Two others in our group ordered the Fried Shrimp entree with Tartar Sauce, Sweet Onion Rings and Slaw ($13). Both said they thought the shrimp was very good. It was large, crispy and more importantly, not greasy. We were told that the seafood arrives several times a week, fresh from the Gulf Coast. I tried one of the onion rings and enjoyed the crispness and non-greasy taste. To me, it is important that the grease gets drained off of any food prior to being served. I hate going somewhere and food is taken right from the fryer and tossed onto your plate, grease and all! Not only does the plate retain all the grease, but the food sits there and soaks it up – ick! For my lunch, I decided to create my own plate. From the Raw menu, I ordered six grilled oysters ($7.50), Wilted Baby Spinach with Shallots and Lardons (bacon) ($5), and Creamy Grits ($3). Everything I ordered was wonderful. I loved the oysters served with horseradish and cocktail sauce, and the grits were so good, I know I will order them again. I also enjoyed the salad. When I was a child, I remember my grandmother making a very similar salad – wilted lettuce salad with bacon and green onions. Other brunch items include fried okra with dipping sauce ($9), Onion Soup Gratinee ($9), Lump Blue Crab Salad ($13) and red potato and Vidalia hash ($4). The lunch menu during the week is basically the brunch menu without the breakfast items. The dinner menu has additional items with such tempting delights as Truffled risotto with fresh herbs and Grana Parmesan ($17), Grilled Trout with Haricots Verts (French green beans), tomatoes, almonds and Creme Fraiche ($17), Grilled Permit (I understand this is a Cuban fish, but I could be wrong), with heirloom tomatoes, cornbread and buttermilk vinaigrette ($19), and Braised Pork Cheeks with whipped potatoes and broccolini ($19). Easy Bistro also has Steaks and pastas. Entree dinner prices range from $15 to $24, except for the Beef Rib Steak dinner for two ($56). A full service bar is offered and features house-infused vodkas. Our server was personable, attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable regarding the menu, but was not overly intrusive in our conversation. Yes, we will be going back to Easy Bistro & Bar. Everyone enjoyed their meal and had a delightful time. Desserts were tempting, especially the Creme Brulee, but everyone was full so we all passed. They do offer a children’s menu. Hours for Easy Bistro & Bar are Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM and Friday and Saturday until 11:00 PM. Bar is open until . . . . . Share your opinions with us at Chattanooga Dine Out We’re gaining new members each week and look forward to others joining us soon. cdojanet@chattanoogadineout.com |
