State Health Commssioner To Recognize Chattanoogans For Commitment To Wellness
posted August 23, 2008

Tennessee Commissioner of Health Susan R. Cooper, M.S.N., R.N., will recognize individuals from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and other Hamilton County organizations who have made a commitment to health and fitness on Tuesday at 10 a.m., as part of a statewide tour to promote Get Fit Tennessee and the free tools available at: www.getfittn.com.

The walk will begin at Waterhouse Pavilion at Miller Plaza.

BlueCross offers incentives to its employees to participate in wellness programs. The insurance provider also encourages its clients to provide these types of programs. Since launching its program in 2007, several of its employees have made life-altering changes in their lifestyles, including losing weight and smoking cessation.

On Tuesday, Commissioner Cooper will recognize these individuals and join them for a celebratory walk in downtown Chattanooga, encouraging everyone to start where they are and make small changes each day toward a healthier lifestyle. Anyone is invited to join the walk and celebration of health and fitness.

Get Fit Tennessee is a statewide awareness program developed by Gov. Phil Bredesen with a focus on educating and empowering Tennesseans to move more and eat healthier to combat health risks facing the state, such as obesity, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
