Gertrude Scoggins Hunnicutt, 89, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at her home.

Mrs. Hunnicutt worked in the Hamilton County Court system. She served as Chief Deputy of Circuit Court and then as Chief Deputy of Sessions Court. She retired after 42 years. She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Central High School Class of 1936.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ira and Mary Scoggins, and her husband, Herman Hunnicutt.

Surviving are her daughter, Rita (Robert) Hamilton; son Richard (Charlene) Hunnicutt; seven grandchildren, Bobby Bass, Babette Raines, Angela (Rob) Chapman, Daniel Bass, Michael (Traci) Bass, Heather Hunnicutt, and Holly (Matt) Martin; and five great-grandchildren, Crystal Bass, Sarah Chapman, Dustin Bass, Matthew Raines, and Meagan Bass.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Bass, Dustin Bass, Michael Bass, Rob Chapman, Matthew Raines, and Matthew Martin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
