Gino Bennett Taking Key Role In Hammond Administration
posted August 25, 2008

Sheriff Jim Hammond said he has named G.A. "Gino" Bennett as his temporary office coordinator.

Mr. Bennett is a longtime associate of the new sheriff and is set to have a key role in his administration.

Sheriff Hammond said, "Gino is an excellent aide-de-camp. He is very gifted at writing grant proposals and project development."

Sheriff Hammond said the permanent appointment of Mr. Bennett and other changes must get the approval of the Sheriff's Civil Service Board.

The new sheriff said he plans to create one new position at the administrative level. He declined to give details.

Allen Branum, who served as interim sheriff after Sheriff Billy Long was arrested by the FBI, is staying on as chief deputy.

Sheriff Hammond said Ann Brown will serve as his executive secretary.

Missy McCully, who was executive secretary for Sheriff Long, moves to a squad secretary position.

Lt. Max Templeton will no longer be over media relations.

He said to members of the media on Monday, "I would like to take time to thank each member of the media for the great working relationship you allowed me to develop with each of you. Due to the need for a patrol Lieutenant on second shift I have taken that position starting Wednesday of this week.

"Janice (Atkinson) and Dusty (Stokes) will continue to work with you when you have a need. I have enjoyed making strong friendships with each of you. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has had a tough year. Now Sheriff Jim Hammond will take us into the future with an honest dedication to making us great.

"I look forward to being a part of that greatness in my new position. We are lucky to have people who are truly sincere about improving the quality of life for Hamilton County citizens through good law enforcement.

"Thanks again for your support of the men and women of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office."
