Albert Pujols Catches Chipper Jones In Battle For National League's Hitting Title by Tim Evearitt posted August 25, 2008
Two weeks ago, Jones was hitting .370 and had a 22-point lead over Colorado’s Matt Holliday, with Pujols a point behind Holliday at .347. Jones, who has hit .284 in his past 33 games, still held a 22-point lead in the batting race two weeks ago. But Pujols has hit .404 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs in his past 27 games. Twice during the past weekend Jones has called Pujols the best hitter in the league, regardless of who wins the batting title. Whereas the Braves have no playoff hopes, the Cardinals are trying to win the NL Wild Card. |
