Although the Braves are out of the race for a playoff spot, Chipper Jones is in the race with Albert Pujols for the National League batting crown. Pujols, who capped a sizzling offensive series Sunday with a two-run homer in the first inning and finished with a 2-for-2 day, went 8-for-10 in the series, is less than a percentage point behind Jones (.35946 to .35867).

Two weeks ago, Jones was hitting .370 and had a 22-point lead over Colorado’s Matt Holliday, with Pujols a point behind Holliday at .347.

Jones, who has hit .284 in his past 33 games, still held a 22-point lead in the batting race two weeks ago.

But Pujols has hit .404 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs in his past 27 games.

Twice during the past weekend Jones has called Pujols the best hitter in the league, regardless of who wins the batting title.

Whereas the Braves have no playoff hopes, the Cardinals are trying to win the NL Wild Card.
