Groundbreaking Is Wednesday For New Interfaith Homeless Network Family Day Center
posted August 25, 2008

Groundbreaking for the new Interfaith Homeless Network family day center at the old Farmer’s Market site off of 11th Street will Wednesday.

Among those set to take part are Mayor Ron Littlefield, Interfaith Homeless Network Executive Director Mary Ellen Galloway and Interfaith Homeless Network trustees, staff and volunteers.

The site is at Baldwin Street off of East 11th Street. It is the former location of the Gentleman Farmer Restaurant.

It will be from 10-11 a.m.

Officials said, "Families comprise the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population nationwide and in Chattanooga, families make up 40 percent of the homeless population. In partnership with congregations of all faith traditions, the mission of the Interfaith Homeless Network (IHN) is to help homeless families achieve and sustain stability and self-sufficiency by providing shelter, meals, supportive services, follow-up, and links to housing and community resources.

"In 10 years of operation, IHN has served more than 1,500 homeless people including 900 children. IHN strives to keep families together."
