Bank Employee, Acquaintance Charged In ATM Theft posted August 26, 2008 An employee of the Hixson branch of First Volunteer Bank and an acquaintance have been charged in the theft of $13,800 from an ATM machine. Charged with theft over $10,000 was Misty Smith Hitchcock, 26, of Viewmont Lane in Soddy-Daisy and David Brandon Oliver. Those charges were bound to the Grand Jury from General Sessions Court on Tuesday morning. Oliver remains in jail, while Ms. Hitchcock made bond. Police said video surveillance showed that on Aug. 6, Ms. Hitchcock and Brandon entered a break room that has access to the ATM. The rear of the ATM is secured with a vault-type door with a combination lock. The video showed Oliver entering the area of the ATM machine and went to some safe deposit boxes. It was later found that $13,800 in $20 bills was missing. Police said Ms. Hitchcock denied knowing the combination to the lock, but the numbers were found on a piece of paper at her desk. Police said $11,000 in cash in $20 bills was found in a safe deposit box that Oliver had access to. |
