Samples, Dora Ownby (Cleveland)

Dora Ownby Samples, 92, of Cleveland, died on Sunday, August 24, 2008 in a local hospital.

She was a member of Big Spring Baptist Church and before her retirement worked as a floral designer with Jones Florist and Jimmie’s Florist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Emma Whaley Ownby; her husband, James “Doc” Clifford Samples; two sons, James Clifford “Sonny” Samples, Jr. and Robert T. “Bob” Samples and his wife Jessie Holmes Samples; several brothers, Clell Ownby, Carl Ownby, Ora Ownby and Clyde Ownby; and one sister, Deane Levi.

She is survived by one granddaughter, Amy Samples Davenport and husband Tim of Cleveland; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Davenport of Cleveland; special niece, Betty Bryant of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Cora Lee Rose and Ruby Bryant, both of Cleveland.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with a White Dove Release Ceremony concluding the service. Pallbearers include Robert Ownby, Carl Ownby, Jack Ownby, Hal Ownby, Don Rose, Jake Smith and Bill Bryant.

Her family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
