Crabtree Farms Sixth Annual Fall Plant Sale Is Sept. 7 posted August 26, 2008 Crabtree Farms Sixth Annual Fall Plant Sale is Saturday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The two-day sale features a perennial showcase of flower and herb plants for Chattanooga area gardens and lawns. In addition, there will be a selection of certified organic vegetable starts perfect to jump-start fall gardens. This event at Crabtree Farms enables area gardeners to spring into fall with landscaping projects. Planting perennials in the fall ensures them a healthy start to bloom year after year. In a growing tradition, the Fall Plant sale enables area gardeners to expand the growing season. Admission and parking are free. There will be fall video or photo opportunities of veggies, flowers, kids on hay rides. The Fall Sale includes over 80 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and perennial and annual flowers. In total, over 3,000 plants are available. Crabtree has a wide selection great for everyone's fall gardens, whether you have an acre or a container on your balcony. Vegetables for sale include a wide selection of greens, including American Flag Leeks, Candy Onion, Invento Cabbage, Bright Lights Swiss Chard, and Belstar Broccoli. Fruits for sale include Brown Turkey fig trees, Chandler strawberry plants, blueberry bushes and Chester Thornless blackberry vines. Herbs for sale include tasty treats such as Chocolate Mint, Hot N Spicy Oregano, Lemon Thyme, and Garlic Chives. Flowers for sale include hard-to-find and stunning flowers that will bloom for years to come. Many like daisies, yarrow, coreopsis, and coneflower make wonderful cut flowers. Organizers said, "The Fall Festival will celebrate all things local including booths locally produced items for sale, kids activities, including hayrides, and of course plants galore! There will be so many fun hand made products, including hand blown glass from Kennedy Glass Studios, garden ornaments by Pandascapes, natural aromatic bath and beauty products by Edens Way Herbal Soap Factory, hand-painted clothing by Deep Blue Wearable Art, pottery and gourds by Down & Under Studios and hand woven baskets by Bill Haley." There will be many offerings at the on site Farm Stand as well. There will be certified organic seasonal vegetables, all natural meats by Riveridge Farms, Erma's Bees honey and organic garden amendments, as well as peat moss, straw, worm castings and hen manure compost. |
