The Value Of An Informed Electorate posted August 26, 2008 As I watch the presidential election unfold and I see the number of people who write in to the Chattanoogan or the Times Free Press and make statements about both candidates which are either half truths or outright lies I am beginning to see how uninformed we as a nation are when it pertains to the people we plan to put in most important political office in the nation. We make our decisions based on comments from friends, co-workers and family members, and we refuse to do our own homework and find out the real facts about the beliefs, backgrounds, and political ideologies of the candidates. If we refuse to sift through the trash that gets fed to us through the various media outlets - be they liberal or conservative - and refuse to do our own homework, then we as a nation will continue to get the leaders we deserve. William T. Elliott Coalmont, Tn. |
