City Auditor Should Be Truly Independent posted August 27, 2008 I don't understand the difficulty in organizing the proper structure for a city auditor. It is very simple. The city auditor should be independent. That means neither the mayor nor the council should be able to influence him or her. That is true transparency in government. Any council person or mayor that does not support such a structure most likely has something to hide. As a taxpayer, I would like to know that there is someone watching what the politicians are doing and telling us about any problems, without fear of retribution. Jerry Yates |
