Dreafas Thomas Lewis, 87, died on Tuesday night, Aug. 26, 2008.
He was a kind-hearted devoted Christian and family man who never met a stranger, and through his battle of cancer, he never lost his sense of humor and joy of life.
He was a member of Welch Chapel Church where he taught Sunday School for over 40 years, was also a member of Dunlap Lodge 693 F&AM, served as Circuit Court Clerk in Sequatchie County for 20 years, was also a member of the American Legion, a World War II Army veteran, where he was wounded during the Normandy D-Day invasion, he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and medal of the Jubilee of Liberty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Vera King Lewis; brother, Marshall Lewis; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Angeline Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma Hixson Lewis; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Gladys Lewis; his beloved grandsons, who were the love of his life, Aaron and Benton Lewis; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Bruce Newlon, Elijah, Ga.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex and Peggy Lewis, Chattanooga, Riley and Leah Lewis, Portland, Or., Fletcher and Gwen Lewis, Dunlap; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Friday at 1 p.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Cross and the Rev. Greg Bartley officiating. Burial will be in Hixson Cemetery.
