Wes Hodges, Named Eastern League Rookie Of The Year posted August 28, 2008 Chattanooga Native and Baylor standout, Wes Hodges, was named Eastern League Rookie of the Year Wednesday. Hodges, who was drafted by The Tribe in 2006 as a junior at Georgia Tech was traded to the Akron Aeros for his second professional season and is making a name for himself in double A baseball. He is leading the Aeros with 16 home runs and 91 RBI. Batting .285(138-for-484), Hodges has played in 128 of 136 games this season. He has 25 doubles, three triples and 66 runs scored this season. Last week Hodges was named to the Easter League All-Star team. The week before that he was named the Eastern League Player of the Week. He participated in the July 17th all-star game and played for the US Team in the 2008 Futures Game at Yankee Stadium during the Major League all-star break. Hodges is one of the leading players in the league in four categories (RBI, hits, total bases, games played). He has reached base in all but 25 games including a streak of 25 in a row during June. The Akron Aeros are an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. They are currently ranked second in the Eastern League Southern Division. The Aeros finish up a home series with Altoona Thursday night at Canal Park. |
