Corn Maze Offers Fun For Entire Family
Brian Baker
posted August 28, 2008

Fall is right around the corner and that means the Mason-Mayfield Corn Maze will soon be open for visitors from across the United States to enjoy. The intricately designed maze, which is sponsored by Mayfield Dairy Farms, is located on ten acres in Athens, Tn. This year's maze features two designs: an eight-acre maze and a two-acre maze.

Gary and Janette Mason have teamed up with Michael Mayfield to move the maze, in its ninth year, to the Mayfield Farm, which is two miles from Mayfield Dairy's milk and ice cream plants and Visitor Center.

From Sept. 2 to Oct. 31, Janette and Michael will welcome visitors and provide a great place to enjoy family outings, school trips, birthday parties, church outings and company picnics.

"We are very excited that the Masons have teamed up with our son, Michael, and moved the maze to the Mayfield Farm. Folks who come to our Visitor Center want to see a real cow and this will give them a great opportunity to see a cow and much more," said Scottie Mayfield, president of Mayfield Dairy. "Janette has prepared a great educational opportunity for visitors to learn about dairy farming and the farming industry."

There is something for everyone. We have animated cows that the kids can actually milk by hand, an animal barn with a variety of animals, a tour of an operational dairy parlor showing how cows are milked, hay rides, a corn cannon, kiddie tractors (tricycles) and educational silos. Mayfield ice cream treats, snacks and drinks are available during the week. Hot dogs, hamburgers and concessions will be available on the weekends.

The maze will be open during the week for school groups with reservations and to the general public on weekends during the following times: Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 1-9 p.m., Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

Admission is $8.00 per person (four years and under are free). Admission for school groups is $6 per person.

Directions:
From Interstate 75: Take Exit #52 (Mt. Verd, Athens). Travel East on 305 for 3.2 miles and turn left on County Road 378 (Tellico Avenue). Go 1.2 miles and turn left on Highway 307. Travel ¾ mile to the Corn Maze (entrance will be on the left).

From Mayfield Dairy's Visitors Center: Turn left (North) on Highway 307 and travel 2.0 miles to the Corn Maze (entrance will be on the left).
