The man, who resides in the High Point community, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon following a search of his home.
Sheriff Wilson said Michael David Williamson of 9454 Highway 193, has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child and failure to register as a sex offender.
Law enforcement officers who searched the residence Wednesday discovered a large quantity of child pornography on CDs and floppy disks, according to Sheriff Wilson. Two computers were also taken by law enforcement as part of the investigation.
The investigation has determined that Williamson was on “indefinite probation” from California for a child molestation conviction. Additionally, Williamson has been in violation of California sex offender registration requirements since August 1996, it was stated.
Investigators believe Williamson has been living in Walker County since 1999.
Williamson is being held in the Walker County Jail. No bond had been set as of Thursday afternoon.
