The Tennessee Department of Transportation has set a public meeting for the proposed toll bridge over the Tennessee River near Soddy-Daisy.
The hearing on a toll feasibility study will be next Thursday at 6 p.m. at Soddy-Daisy High School – Gymnasium.
This is a public meeting hosted by State Rep. Jim Cobb & TDOT Commissioner Gerald Nicely "to gather local input on the proposed Tennessee River Bridge in northern Hamilton County."
Officials said, "If constructed this project would provide an additional north-south route between two areas in Northern Hamilton County via a bridge over the Tennessee River."
TDOT will have representatives available to provide information
on various aspects of the proposed project.
“The purpose of the meeting is to allow citizens to voice their support or concerns regarding this proposed project,” said Rep. Cobb. “I am very pleased that this forum is being held and I encourage the citizens of Hamilton and surrounding counties to attend to let their voices be heard. This public hearing will carry much weight as officials consider whether or not to proceed with the project.”
Rep. Cobb said Tennessee and states around the nation "are suffering from declining road funds from the federal government. This makes it very difficult for states to keep up with the pace to maintain existing infrastructure and to build needed projects like the north Hamilton County bridge through normal channels unless other options, like tolls, are utilized.”
TDOT will equip the meeting to accommodate persons with disabilities if contacted no less than 10 days prior to the date of the meeting.
