Stadium Board Told Finley Stadium Is In "Pretty Good Shape"
posted August 28, 2008

Members of the Stadium Board were told Thursday that Finley Stadium is "in pretty good shape."

Mike Davis told the board that the 11-year-old facility needed $183,500 in repairs.

The board voted to begin work on many of the problems he outlined, including soffit repairs, drywall and louver work, painting and caulking.

Mr. Davis said other items need to be addressed in the near future including HVAC maintenance, more caulking and sealing, and lighting repairs and upgrades.

Officials said one problem on the artificial turf field is that a problem with the irrigation system is interfering with use of watering cannons. Officials said the field needs to be kept watered so that its base will remain compact.

Another need cited with resealing and restriping of the south parking lot that is used by boosters and skybox holders.

Architect Bill Wilkerson told the board that how long the stadium will last depends on how well it is maintained.

He said, "With good maintenance, you might get 60 or 70 years. Without it, you might be pressed to get 40."

Gordon Davenport Jr. said a fund drive by the private group, Friends of Finley, is going well. He said $113,000 of the goal of $150,000 has been pledged.
