CCS Tops Signal Mountain 4-1 In School's First Game CCS Coach Sneller Wins 200th Game posted August 28, 2008
The win for CCS marked head coach Cal Sneller's 200th win at CCS and first of the 2007-2008 season. The game for Signal Mountain marks the start of what will be a very strong program. CCS's Tiffany Sullivan scored the first goal of the game but Signal Mountain tied the game late in the first half with a goal by Lila Fisher which was assisted by Mary Megan Robinson. The game remained tied through the half-time break. CCS came out strong in the second half with goals by Logan Mays, another one by Sullivan and the third goal from Eryn Rice off a corner kick. Lady Charger head coach was pleased to see his team settle down in the second half. "We got frustrated right at the beginning," he said. "We had all those opportunity, but got a little sloppy. We started to push it up a little bit and got a little frantic. They settled down in the second half and got those two goals real quick which helped." The goal by Lady Eagles forward Fisher was the first for the school and program. Head coach Pam Shelton said the girls were nervous, but played very well. "It was much closer than a 4-1 game and for these girls in a brand new school and brand school, they did well," Shelton said. "They were were a little anxious and a little nervous. They are mostly 9th graders and are really just a jv team." The school started with 9-11th graders this year, but most on the team are in 9th or 10th. Keeper McKenzie Eschman had a good game in the goal for Signal Mountain. It was her first start as a keeper. "She has never played in the goal," Shelton said. "This was her first start as a keeper." Leah Wilson is a four year starter for CCS as a keeper. CCS moves to 1-0 on the season and Signal Mountain is now 0-1. The Lady Eagles will play Grace and Sweetwater next week and then play in the CCS tournament on Friday and Saturday. CCS will not play again until the opening game in their own invitational next Friday.
