William R. Powell, 88, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at his home.
He was a mighty man of God who served his Lord faithfully. Mr. Powell was loved and adored by his family and friends. He retired from Shearer Amusement Company.
He was preceded in death by his son, William R. Powell, Jr.; daughter, Betty Hodges; sister, Mildred Bunch; and brother, Morris Weed.
Survivors include the love of his life, Betty Griffin, and man's best friend, his beloved "Rowdy;" sons, William Thames of McRae, Ga., Richard Dixon of Hixson, Michael Powell of Chattanooga, and Wayne Powell of Chattanooga; honorable mention, Robert Kidwell; daughters, Billie McAlister of Cleveland, Billie Mansel Stewart of Millersville, Md., Linda Kidwell of Chattanooga, Deborah White of Stuart, Fl., Lisa Drummond of Newnan, Ga.; 26 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
Our Daddy "Pop" lived by Romans 12:10 (Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another over yourself).
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel with Pastors Greg and Patty Alex officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. on Sunday and 5-9 p.m. on Monday at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel, 601 Ashland Terrace.
