She was the daughter of the late Homer and Lula Hill and was preceded in death by her sister, Inez Pointon and brother, Audey Hill.
Jewel began work as a registered nurse at Knoxville General Hospital and later worked for Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga. She retired as the Assistant Director of Nursing with the Hamilton County Nursing Home.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Portwood, two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Cindy Portwood, of Norman, Ok., Tim and Patrina Portwood, of Chattanooga, four grandchildren, Megan, Kayla, Haylie and Matthew.
The family will receive friends from 6–8 p.m. on Saturday at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens – East.
