Lee Volleyball Opens With Wins

The Lee volleyball team opened the 2008 season with a pair of three-set wins on Friday in the Bryan College Invitational. The Lady Flames defeated host Bryan and Colorado Christian by identical 3-0 margins.

In the tourney’s opening match, Lee defeated the Lady Lions 25-17, 25-16, 28-26. Milica Krsmanovic paved the way with 10 kills, a pair of aces and five blocks. Freshman Stephanie Todd made her first start for the Lady Flames and contributed 10 kills, two assists and 11 digs. Another freshman, Kelsey Leffew was a strong force with 18 assists and Gretchen Higdon was also solid from the other setter’s and put up 13 assists.

In the 25-20, 25-16 and 28-26 triumph over the Colorado club, Tina Questel was the leader with 10 kills. Krsmanovic had six kills in the win, while Christa Hutchison had a sparkling initial outing for the Lady Flames with 12 kills in the pair of games. She also had a club-best .500 hitting percentage.

The action will get much tougher for the Lady Flames on Saturday as they challenge 25th-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) in a contest slated to get underway at noon. Lee’s games are being played at the Rhea County Middle School.
