The East Ridge Pioneers moved to 2-0 on the season with a 28-9 win over Central in a 3 1/2 hour game Friday night.

A long half-time and an extended break late in the third quarter to take Central's Jackson Medley off in an ambulance gave the players plenty to think about while they waited.

When Medley went down, both teams paused on their respective sidelines out of respect.

Central quarterback Patrick Moore also went down with an injury that, although not as serious as Medley's, may put him out for the season. Moore went down in the final second of the second half as the Pounders tried to score on their last play of the half.

At that point, the Pioneers had a 12-7 lead.

East Ridge scored several minutes into the game after Central fumbled on their first possession. Adam Long hit Sloan for a four yard touchdown as the Pioneers capitalized on the early turnover.

East Ridge scored late in the first quarter after moving the ball down the field with a host of ball carriers. Donnie Garner finished off the drive with a 19 yard run.

Central got on the board on their first possession of the second quarter after Preston Womack punched one in from four yards out, cutting the lead to just five, 12-7.

Central came out in the second half with Maurice King at quarterback but he only lasted one possession. The stingy East Ridge defense held King and the Pounders to minus 5 yards on their first possession of the second half.

Womack finished the game at quarterback Central Womack completed three passes in the final minutes.

East Ridge's second half scores came off a two yard keeper by Long and a 48 yard punt return by Garner.

Central backed the Pounders up deep in their own territory in the fourth quarter after a nice punt and scored their final points on a safety.

Although he didn't score, East Ridge's Gunner Miller was the workhorse rushing 13 times for a 157 yards.

Long was two for five with 14 yards in the air and one interception.

Womack had 11 rushes for 62 yards.

Early indications are that Moore suffered a broken collarbone.
