Author Dendy, Dr. Fincher To Speak On ADHD
posted September 2, 2008

Author Chris A. Zeigler Dendy will speak at the regular meeting of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at the Hickory Valley Christian School, 6605 Shallowford Road.

Ms. Dendy is an author, educator, school psychologist and children's mental health professional with over 35 years' experience. She is also the mother of two grown sons and a daughter who have AD/HD.

She earned an M.S. from Florida State University on a National Institute of Mental Health fellowship. Ms. Dendy has chaired her local mental health board, plus she was co-founder and clinical advisor for the Gwinnett, Ga., CHADD. She presents nationally and internationally, plus has authored two videotapes and three books, including one co-authored with her son, Alex.

Ms. Dendy's presentation will be "School Daze" and will focus on strategies for success in school. Among other elements of her presentation will be executive function of the brain, which has emerged as a key factor influencing school success or failure for students with ADHD. Since teachers may attribute disorganization, forgetfulness, and memory problems to laziness or lack of motivation, development of an educational plan to address these deficits is critical.

"This nuts and bolts workshop offers specific strategies that may be incorporated into the IEP, Section 504 Plan or general educational plan for your child," said Ms. Dendy.

Presenting for ADHD adults will be local psychologist Dr. George Fincher. Dr. Fincher serves on the Professional Advisory Board of the local CHADD Chapter, and will be presenting on "Assessment of Adults - It's Never Too Late." He will discuss symptoms of ADHD in adults and will explore assessment methods and treatment.

Dr. Fincher is a resident of Ooltewah. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, with a B.S. in Psychology, Middle Tennessee State University, with a M.A. in Psychology, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, M.Ed. in Prescriptive & Diagnostic Special Education, and the University of Sarasota, with an Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology.

Dr. Fincher is Tennessee Licensed as a Senior Psychological Examiner / Health Service Provider, Licensed Professional Counselor/ Mental Health Service Provider, and Certified Marital and Family Therapist. He is also a nationally certified school psychologist. Additionally, he is a national special education consultant, lecturer, author, teacher, and a national preschool programs consultant in Mental Health, Disability Services, Safe Environments, Health, Nutrition, Family and Community Services.

In his private practice in Chattanooga, Dr. Fincher provides trans-disciplinary services in both the clinical and school settings.
