Bruton, Bill L.
Accomplished And Award-Winning Photographer

Bill L. Bruton, 73, of Ooltewah, died on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.

A native of Thomasville, N.C., Mr. Bruton was born March 4, 1935. He attended Catawba College and later became a sales representative for Delmar Studios in Baton Rouge, La.

After the birth of his first child, he began his career in commercial photography with Alderman Studios of High Point, N.C., where he remained for 18 years. In 1976 he became president and co-owner of Hinkle Photographics in Chattanooga until his retirement in 2000.

He was an accomplished photographer obtaining both his master of photography and craftsmen of photography presented by the Professional Photographers of America, where he later served as president and chairman of the board of directors.

During his career, he taught countless seminars and clinics throughout the United States and Canada. In 1999, the Professional Photographers of Kentucky honored his work and seminars in Louisville, Ky., by naming him a Kentucky colonel. One of his noted and memorable professional accomplishments was serving as president of the Tennessee Professional Photographers Association in the early 90s and his induction into the Tennessee Photography Hall of Fame in 1999.

Mr. Bruton attended Mountain Meadows Church of God. Attending church and development as a Christian were both important to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth Bruton, of Thomasville.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Harriet Rose Bruton; son, Michael (Melanie) Bruton, of High Point, N.C.; daughters, Renee (Tim) Mendenhall, of Alpharetta, Ga., Kim Walker, of Ooltewah, and Rhonda (Kerry) Moore, of McDonald, Tn.; sister, Janet Ruth Hunt, Sophia, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Wallace officiating.
