Police said an alleged robber ended up with stab wounds at the Hamilton Inn early Thursday morning.

Police responded to the inn at 2717 Rossville Blvd. on a report of a robbery from person. Upon their arrival, they were met by 70-year-old Donald Babb of Chattanooga, who said he had brought his housekeeper to see her boyfriend, who lives at the Hamilton Inn. Mr. Babb said two black males approached him with a knife and took his wallet from his pants pocket.

One of the suspects then punched him in the face. Mr. Babb then went to other rooms demanding to know who had robbed him and he was let into a room.

Police said Dale Bratchie, 46, of 727 E 11th St. followed Mr. Babb and was going to rob him again. However, the people inside the room refused entry to Bratchie, who began kicking in the door threatening to kill everyone inside.

Police said Bratchie then smashed the window into the room and began crawling in. The people inside began stabbing Bratchie in the leg with their pocket knives in self defense, it was stated.

Bratchie was transported to Erlanger Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his non-life-threatening injuries.

Bratchie is being charged with aggravated burglary and may face other charges, police said.

Mr. Babb could not identify the other suspects who initially robbed him in the parking lot, police said.
