They Get Soft Scrambled Right At The Country Diner by Janet Wilson posted September 5, 2008
The Country Diner is located at 321 Browns Ferry Road in Lookout Valley in a small shopping center with Food Lion. When you get off I-24 at Browns Ferry (coming from downtown), turn right and it’s only about a block on the left. There were many choices for breakfast ranging from the standard eggs, bacon, and sausage, to pancakes, waffles, omelets, biscuits and breakfast sandwiches. They even have a fried bologna sandwich ($3). I decided to push my luck and ordered two soft scrambled eggs with tenderloin ($5.95). As everyone knows, I’m always disappointed when my eggs arrive because it seems no one has a clue on “soft”. When my plate arrived, not only were my eggs perfect, but our server actually asked if they were soft enough. The biscuits were soft and moist. Usually I will eat maybe half a biscuit with gravy, but this time I ate the whole biscuit, covered by sausage gravy. I also have to say that this was probably the tenderest tenderloin I have ever eaten. It was fork-tender; absolutely fell apart. Wayne ordered a Western Omelet ($5.50) and, thinking that he wouldn’t be getting anything other than the omelet, he ordered a BLT ($3.25). He was certainly surprised when not only did he get a choice of chips, fries or tater tots with his sandwich, but a choice of biscuits and gravy or toast and grits with the omelet. Wayne’s omelet was large and fluffy, so he had his hands full with all that food. Usually he will bypass biscuits because he says they are always too dry. Not the case here, and he ate both biscuits, along with the gravy. Needless to say there was no room for the sandwich. Breakfast prices range from $.50 for one egg to $5.95 for the above mentioned eggs with tenderloin or with a pork chop. The Country Diner has a large selection of sandwiches (served with a choice of fries, tots, chips, chili or soup) from burgers and hot dogs, to BBQ pork and Philly Steaks. Sandwiches range from $2.25 for a plain hot dog to $6.95 for the Philly Steak or a Club Sandwich (featuring ham, turkey, bacon, and a choice of cheese, with lettuce mayo and tomato). It’s the daily lunch menu (served from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM) that sounds extremely tempting to me. We need to get this place to move over to our side of town! Monday offers such items as meatloaf and fried chicken livers; Tuesday, salmon patties and pot roast with veggies; Wednesday, kraut & wieners and beef tips and rice; Thursday, country style steak and chicken and dressing; and Friday baked ham and chicken and dumplings. Of course there are many other items; those are just to tempt your taste buds. There are at least sixteen vegetable choices each day! For a meat and three it is $6.50, meat and two is $5.50, or you could get a vegetable place ($4.25 for four or $3.25 for three). Country Diner also offers a Kids Menu with a drink included for $4.50. They are open for dinner featuring fried catfish ($9.95), grilled chicken ($7.95), and grilled pork chop ($9.95). Prices range from $7.95 for several dishes, to $16.95 for a 16 ounce T-Bone. Dinner sides include a choice of two: slaw, salad, baked beans, baked potato, fries or tots). Breakfast is served until 11:00 AM and on Saturday they only serve the sandwich/salads menu. This is definitely a place a meat and three person could get hooked on.
