CAAM Has Root Workers And Railroad Tracks Exhibit
posted September 5, 2008

The Chattanooga African American Museum will present Root Workers and Railroad Tracks, a solo mixed media exhibition by local artist, James McKissic. The exhibit is housed in the Vilma Fields Atrium and will run Aug. 22 – Oct. 31, with an artist reception on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.

Mr. McKissic, a 2007 recipient of the Four Bridges Art Festival Emerging Artist Scholarship, is exhibiting 17 paintings. Most recently he has exhibited his work at UNUM and WTCI Studios as part of the Association for Visual Artists Corporate Lending Program. He also shows regularly at the Fine Line Gallery in Atlanta and OutLoud Books and Coffeshop in Nashville.

“With this show at the Chattanooga African American Museum, I want to let people see what I’ve been doing over the past couple of years. I chose the title Root Workers and Railroad Tracks because so much of my work and my aesthetic are based on my experiences as a Southern, African American man.”

To RSVP for the reception or for more information, call the CAAM at 266-8658.
