Ooltewah, CCS Win In First Round Of Weekend Soccer Tournament
posted September 5, 2008

Ooltewah and Chattanooga Christian School were the only local teams to claim wins in the opening round of the CCS girls soccer tournament Friday night.

It was in the final minute of the match when Hannah Squires finally found the back of the net on an assist from Claire Ingals to score the only goal of the game to give Ooltewah the 1-0 win over Tullahoma Friday night at the CCS Tournament.

"It was a great game," Ooltewah coach Rick Adolf said. "There was back and forth. Mckenzie came up with some big saves for us a few times. It was close and we were fortunate to pull it out."

McKenzie Bailey made seven saves for the Lady Owls who were out shot 8-7 by Tullahoma.

Coach Adolf joked with his girls when the score was 0-0 at halftime telling them they had to win so they could sleep in Saturday morning. The win gives them the the later game and matches them up with host CCS.

The two schools played each other in the Saturday morning match of last year's tournament and fell in a close one, eventually taking third place in the tournament.

"CCS is strong again," Coach Adolf said looking forward to the next match. "It will be an even tougher battle. We have a young team, but they are playing well and I'm really pleased with them."

The Lady Chargers won their opening match 3-1 over Anderson County.

Logan Mays led CCS with two goals and one assist. Erin Rice scored the other goal and Tiffany Sullivan and Hannah Farlett each had an assist.

In other games FRA defeated Coffee County 4-0 and Tennessee High defeated McMinn Central 2-0.

In the losers bracket Tullahoma fell to Ooltewah 1-0

In the gold bracket Shelbyville defeated Cleveland 4-3, Knox Catholic defeated Signal Mountain 5-2, Science Hill defeated Boyd-Buchanan 3-2 and Maryville defeated Lipscomb 3-1.
