The all around efforts from Sophomore Eric McCullough and Senior Marcus Shrophsire led Howard to a convincing 48-18 win over Notre Dame on Friday night, leading coach Alvin Tarver to believe his team is one step closer to where he wants them to be.

"I tell them to keep their composure at all times," said Tarver. "It's four quarters of football. When we're winning or losing, we've got to keep our composure."

The Hustlin Tigers did just that Friday night behind the leadership of Shropshire and McCullough, who each made plays on offense, defense, and special teams.

"By leading, they are learning how to lead," said Tarver after the game. "They are leading in both ways…in actions and words."

Shropshire ran for over 100 yards in the game, including two touchdowns on back to back possessions. He also made tackles defensively, and when Eric McCullough experienced some cramping late in the game even stepped in to try an extra point.

"If people go down, we step it up," said Shropshire after the game. "We have leadership in our execution, but practice makes perfect, and if we have questions we go ask coach."

Several Hustlin Tigers marked positive yardage in the game, and five different players scored offensively, but Eric McCullough recalled the defensive effort as the most impressive aspect of Howard's game.

"Our defense stepped it up," said McCullough. "They had a goose egg on offense."

Notre Dame scored first in the game with a fumble recovery in the end zone by Brendan Dusevic. Then, after a field goal in the middle of the game, John David Bruce picked up another loose ball and ran it in for the score.

"If they aren't scoring any touchdowns then we must be doing something right on defense," McCullough said after the game.

Howard Quarterback Michael Bryant held the reigns for the Hustlin Tigers, and scored twice, once on a two yard run up the middle, and again by linking up with Chris Deloney for a 30 yard touch down pass.

Senior Jahron Reynolds contributed with two scores of his own, one of which was a 55 yard punt return 2nd quarter.

Howard goes on to play at East Ridge next week.

"You can bet they'll be ready to go," said coach Tarver. "Should be a good game."

Marcus Shropshire plans on taking his teams steamroll effort from Friday into the game at East Ridge.

"We just don't panic. We keep calm. One game at a time. East Ridge next. We're ready."
