Mocs In Home Opener Against Cumberland
posted September 6, 2008

The Chattanooga Mocs (0-1) play their home opener on Saturday, hosting Cumberland University (1-0) with a 6 p.m. start time.

The Bulldogs make the two-hour drive down I-24 from Lebanon, Tn., for the first meeting between the two schools since 1925.

The game pits the Division I Mocs against the NAIA school of 1,200 students. It would seem a game easy to overlook for the UTC squad.

“We haven’t earned the right to overlook anybody,” said Head Coach Rodney Allison. “We have worked really hard this week and focused on us...on what we do. Cumberland runs an offense we don’t see very often and it offers a unique set of challenges.”

The Mocs are coming off a 57-2 loss at FBS No. 4 Oklahoma, while CU claimed a 48-38 win at Campbellsville (Ky.) just one week ago. The Bulldogs run the classic Wing T set on offense and used it for 401 yards in the air in the win. CU also gave up 682 yards to its hosts.

Two starters injured in the OU game, QB Jare Gault (stinger) and RB Erroll Wynn (wrist) are expected to be ready for the home opener. The game is Chattanooga Area Food Bank Night as all fans who bring two non-perishable food items get a general admission ticket for free. The first 2,000 fans will receive a magnetic dry erase board.

Players to Watch

OFFENSE: Jare Gault/Tony Pastore, QBs. The talented duo are battling for playing time and consistency behind center for the Mocs.

DEFENSE: Neil Brown, DE/Rodney Beamon, DT: The leaders of the front four could set the tone for their side of the ball.
