Lady Mocs, Wolf Claim Early Lead At Opening Golf Event posted September 6, 2008 GLENCOE, Ala. - The Chattanooga Lady Mocs are off to a good start to the 2008-09 season taking a 15-stroke lead after one round of the Chris Banister Classic at Silver Lakes Golf Club. The Lady Mocs shot an even-par 288 to top in-state rival Middle Tennessee at 303 and Murray State at 309. Sophomore Christine Wolf not only led Chattanooga with a two-under par 70, she also leads the event. Teammates Kayla Stewart and Maria Salinas are tied for second at 71 (-1). Emma de Groot, an NCAA Regional qualifier in 2008, shot a four-over par round of 76 to stand tied for 16th. Maria Juliana Loza shot 77 (+5) to complete round one tied for 20th. Junior Katie Taylor is tied for 41st at 83 playing as an individual. The Lady Mocs team is quite young with two juniors (Stewart, Taylor), two sophomores (de Groot, Wolf) and two freshmen (Loza, Salinas). Chattanooga is the defending champion of the event. Saturday is the second round with the Lady Mocs paired with MTSU and Murray State, The final round of the 54-hole event is on Sunday. |
