Thanks To Those Who Made Doggie Paddle A Success posted September 11, 2008 On behalf of the McKamey Animal Care & Adoption Center, and also on behalf of the wonderful volunteer team of John and Becky Williams, I would like to thank everyone who brought their canine friend(s) to participate in this year's Doggie Paddle. The event was held twice, once in August and the second one in September at the Warner Park and the Hamilton YMCA outdoor pools respectfully. The turnout was just unbelievable as more than 300 dogs participated, ranging in size from the tiniest chihuahua to the biggest dog I have ever seen, an Irish Wolfhound! Watching the dogs frolic about in the water, chasing each other around the pool (where as kids we were all taught 'not' to run in the pool area), it was just a fun atmosphere for everyone that attended. The excitement of the owners added to the fun as they made their attempts to get their dog into the water at first, and sometimes with some encouragement. Once in the water, the dogs seemed to really enjoy dog-paddling their way around the pool and chasing tennis balls, frisbees and other water toys. The staff at both facilities deserve praise as well and did a remarkable job! The volunteers who helped at both events are priceless. The attitudes of everyone involved helped make these events the success that they were. The financial rewards for the McKamey Animal Center are very much appreciated and will be put to good use towards the welfare of those animals in our care. If you have already purchased or will soon be purchasing this year's "Kid's First Coupon Book" there is a coupon on page 136 for $25 off an adoption at the McKamey Animal Center. If you do not plan to use this coupon, please send it to the McKamey Center so we can allow future adoptive families to use them for a discount. Again, thank you to everyone who helped make this year's Doggie Paddle the huge success that it was and we will see you next year at the pool!
