Coker Tire Challenge To Roll Into Chattanooga
posted September 15, 2008

History will come alive on Sunday as over 40 antique race cars and hot rods cross the finish line at the end of this year’s Coker Tire Challenge.

The event will take place at Coker Tire’ newly renovated international headquarters, located in Chattanooga’s historic Southside.

Family and friends will be close by to welcome the racers and celebrate their accomplishments in this year’s intense three-day, 575-mile, timed rally around Chattanooga. Racers will start arriving around 11 a.m.

“We are extremely excited to be able to provide enthusiasts with another wonderful opportunity to get out and drive their vintage cars,” said Corky Coker, president of Coker Tire Company and a frequent automotive rally competitor.

“The Coker Tire Challenge is about the enjoyment of the open road, and in September, the highways of Tennessee offer spectacular vistas coupled with challenging switchbacks that enhance the sheer pleasure of being behind the wheel.”

The 2008 Coker Tire Challenge is organized by Coker Tire and based on the traditional rally competition format, which requires precision driving and navigating at street-legal speeds by two-person teams.

Competitors follow a specific, and often complicated, set of course instructions that indicate turns, speed changes, with designated fuel and rest stops.

Regional events like the Coker Tire Challenge allow rookie competitors to get a feel for the concentration, navigational challenges, and precision rally driving in a stress-free environment. The Coker Tire Challenge also prepares competitors for other major cross-country and transcontinental rallies.
