Share America Raffles Off B.J. Wright Painting posted September 22, 2008 Ms. Wright created a rustic tranquil painting from the Cherokee Valley area of the county. Although she changed it from the conventional red barn, to depict a yellow one. "Most everyone in the South has an old barn that lives in his or her memory," she said. "It beckons to a way of life that we should not forget. Far too many of them have been torn down to make way for parking lots or ranch houses.” The work of art is one of the prizes that individuals can win at a Sacred Sounds Fridays concert drawing Jan. 9, at the Ringgold Depot. Tickets are available for $1 at The Catoosa County News, (706) 935-2621 and FSG Bank in Ringgold (706) 937-3489 or at Sacred Sounds Fridays concerts. Participants do not have to be present to win. "Supporting the traditional arts of Appalachia is a vital endeavor in which we must all take an active role," said Ms. Wright. Funds from the drawing will benefit the Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship fund encouraging youth in the traditional music of Appalachia. |
