Packing Them In At Red Robin by Janet Wilson posted October 2, 2008
We’ve been twice and my opinion is that it reminds me of a Chili’s or O’Charley’s, something along those lines (of course they don’t have steaks like Chili’s or O’Charley’s). The Red Robin menu focuses on burgers. There is a huge selection of Classic Gourmet Burgers, plus Chicken Burgers and Lighten-up Burgers. The burgers all sound quite hefty and delicious, but they also have a hefty price. Under the Insanely Delicious burgers, the menu states they are served with garlic parmesan steak fries. On our first visit, Wayne tried the Royal Red Robin Burger ($9.79). This is a burger topped with three strips of hickory-smoked bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise – and all that is topped with a fried egg! He liked the burger in that it was juicy and sizable, but didn’t feel that it was a great enough burger that would make him want to pay $9.79 again. On this same visit I ordered the Apple Harvest Chicken Salad ($10.49). This was a bed of field greens tossed with grilled chicken, diced apples, candied walnuts and Goat cheese and topped with sliced apples and dijon vinaigrette. It was a large, fresh salad, but I would have preferred more chicken. There was a lot of apples and lettuce. I ordered a Very Berry Raspberry Limeade that was delicious. I really liked it, but at $3.99, not so sure I would order it again. No, it isn’t an alcoholic drink, so I’m not sure why it is so expensive. It is Raspberry and Lime Syrups, Sprite and fresh squeezed limes. On our second visit, Wayne decided to forego the burger and try something else so he ordered the Prime Rib Dip ($12.99); prime rib topped with caramelized onions and Provolone cheese in a baguette with au jus and a side of cole slaw. Yes, you read right - $12.99. You do get endless fries if you like them. To us they seem like the standard frozen steak fry with parmesan sprinkled on top. We were hoping to try the Towering Onion Rings ($7.99) because we saw an order being delivered as we arrived, but sad to say, the rings never arrived. We did place the order, they just never arrived. When our entrees arrived we asked about the appetizer and our server said he forgot to turn it in, so we decided it was too late to go ahead with them. This time I decided to order the soup and salad combo ($7.99, which I felt was a fair price). The salad is a standard mixed greens dinner salad with your choice of dressing and for my soup I chose the Clamdigger’s Clam Chowder. I really liked the chowder. I felt it was rich and creamy and I would go there again for the chowder. Of course, I would have to go with someone else because Wayne said he isn’t going back. They also have Homemade Chili Chili (no that isn’t a typo), French Onion Soup, and Chicken Tortilla Soup (all priced at $4.99 bowl; $2.99 cup)), along with several wraps. Red Robin does have entrees you might like to try. Some are Southwest Chicken Pasta ($11.79), Jumbo Shrimp & Slaw Platter ($11.99), Carnitas Fajitas ($11.99) and Shrimp & Cod Duo ($12.99). Some of the entrees are served with bottomless steak fries. The Red Robin Kids’ Menu ranges in price from $3.99 (corn dog, grilled cheese, etc.), to $4.79 for items including chicken fingers, mac ‘n cheese, and a burger. All are served with milk or a soft drink and a choice of apple slices, mandarin oranges, baby carrots, melon, side salad or fries. The menu lists three desserts – hot fudge sundae ($4.49), hot apple crisp ($5.99), and a mountain high mudd pie ($5.99). That mudd pie sounds mighty tempting! It consists of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, peanut butter cookie bits, chopped peanuts, fudge and peanut butter in a chocolate cookie crust. All that is served in a pool of chocolate fudge and caramel sauce topped with whipped cream, chopped peanuts and a cherry. Wow! I can feel five pounds. coming on without even eating! Hours for Red Robin are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m. Share your opinions with us at Chattanooga Dine Out cdojanet@chattanoogadineout.com |
