UTC's SSS Director Secures Funding From U.S. Dept. Of Education
posted October 3, 2008

Ms.
Shirl Gholston, director of UTC's Student Support Services (SSS), received $285,297 from the U.S. Department of Education to support another year of a program designed to increase retention and graduation rates among UTC students.

The SSS program primarily serves individuals who are low-income, first generation college students or students with disabilities. Participants receive a variety of services, including tutoring, mentoring, personal, academic, career and financial counseling, and a structured freshman year, along with access to social and cultural events and study skills instruction. Through this network of services, Ms. Gholston and program staff hope to increase retention and graduation rates among students at UTC.
