Media Slants And Lies - And Response posted October 4, 2008 Never before in the history of this Great Country have we been inundated with this much media bias. On the national level, you have Olbermann, Hannity, NBC, ABC, Levin, and hundreds of other media morons willing to do "whatever it takes" to get their candidate elected. We are told over and over by each side not to rely on the "mainstream media", nor should we believe the "right wing" media, with its' fundamentalist agenda. The truth is, vast majority have gone from being true journalists to becoming masters of half-truths, spins, indoctrination, and pure lies. Before each broadcast, article, or talk show, there should be a Surgeon General's Warning: "Consuming this product may cause blindness, stupidity, poverty, and a premature death." At least we would be forewarned of the toxicity contained in each article or broadcast. And if you think it is just the national radio, television, or print, try to choke down John Wolfe's show on Talk 102.3 each Saturday. Just this morning, I heard him read a report concerning a Republican candidate that was written during the convention. He repeatedly attempted to validate the story despite the fact the story has already been proven false. Or you can read some of the editorial ranting of our own TFP - well, those of you who need your shot of Democrat bashing. We are, however, fortunate to have people like Jeff Styles, Kevin West, James Lee Reynolds III and Robert T. Nash. They tell you where they stand, report the news, and then encourage listeners to educate themselves on the issues. You may not like their delivery, personalities, or their beliefs, but they are constantly and consistently pushing their audience to get educated and get involved. Chattanoogan.com is another fair source, providing readers the opportunity to voice their opinions. If you want the truth you are going to have to work for it. To live and make choices based on what you read in the newspaper or online, watch on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, or hear on the radio, is to put your lives in the hands of those who really don't give a damn about you. Do you really believe that Keith Olberman cares about your living paycheck to paycheck? I'm sure the folks at CNN are heartbroken that the Mohawk plant is closing, and that Mom and Dad lost their jobs. No, if you want to know what Obama, McCain, Palin, Biden, Wamp, and all the others have done for you, or what outcomes their actions have caused, you have to work. Go to the library - it is a wonderful place filled with books, computers, educational materials, and is usually empty. Go to the library and you will be able to find how the candidates have voted in the past, what Bills they have supported, legal issues, their true stance on social, economic, and military issues. You make decisions and choices - don't let Katie Couric. Or just open another (fill in with the beverage that spends the most on advertising), sit back, turn to (CNN or MSNBC if you are liberal - Fox News for Conservatives - and ESPN for those who want to elect the Saban/Brooks ticket), and behave like good little sheep. Dr. Steven E. Adams Hixson Stevea1967@Hotmail.com * * * This letter is excellent and you make so many good, unbiased points. The airwaves have become inundated with ridiculous accusations and smear attempts on both sides. Unfortunately, too many people listen to it and some are even brainwashed by it. The anger and name calling I've been hearing from some people is amazing. Not only are radio and TV personalities to blame, but also some pastors. All voters need to do the homework themselves and make up their own mind. I agree with your suggestion that people make use of the library. There are also plenty of neutral newspapers online that have loads of information. This election is extremely important to the continued well being of our country. I don't want my kids and grandkids to have to pay for another huge mistake. We as a people need to be informed and make an intelligent decision. Thanks for posting your well thought out letter.
