The Brainerd/East Brainerd Council of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce invites businesses to participate in the council's annual food drive to benefit the Chattanooga Food Bank.
"We are expanding the program this year to meet requests from a group of area community volunteers and residents asking for help from the business community, and the Chamber in particular, in building Food Bank supplies," said Heather Holloway, council president.
Wendy Baubach, a volunteer from the community coalition and coordinator of the East Brainerd Share Your Christmas, invited the council to help with the food drive that will be held at the East Brainerd Bi-Lo December 5 to 7. Baubach created a website, www.helpchattanooga.org, to help publicize organizations that need assistance, volunteer opportunities and charitable events.
The council is asking Chamber member businesses and others who want to participate to have a collection receptacle placed in their office or workspace to gather donations of non-perishable food items from employees and customers.
"This is also a way to reach prospective customers through the advertisement of participating businesses on a community website and through Chamber publicity," Ms. Holloway said.
The collection receptacles should be in place by mid-October and remain in place through the council's Nov. 25th meeting.
"We will make our final delivery to the Food Bank during the first week of December," Ms. Holloway said. "Businesses unable to place a collection bin in their workplace, can also send us a check, made out to The Chattanooga Food Bank and mailed to Heather Holloway at 1208 Pointe Centre Drive, Suite 260 Chattanooga, TN 37421."
