Woman Must Serve 8 Days After Introducing Daughter To Cocaine
posted October 6, 2008

Criminal Court Judge Don Poole sentenced Deborah Godwin to serve eight days at the county workhouse on successive Saturday nights for introducing her young daughter to cocaine and allowing drugs to be sold out of her home.

Ms. Godwin, who had no prior record, said it was "stupid" to have done what she did.

She said David Jennings sold drugs out of a back bedroom for about nine months. She said purchasers would come at all hours.

Ms. Godwin, 52, said she had been using cocaine for about two years and got her daughter to start the habit.

Judge Poole said he would not sentence her to the maximum 11 months and 29 days because of her good record and the fact she is a hard worker. She works six days a week, so she will serve from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Ms. Godwin pleaded earlier to misdemeanor counts of possession of cocaine and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Jennings was convicted and given split confinement on an eight-year term and a consecutive five years for attempted robbery.
