Center For Creative Arts Hosts Chattanooga Dances! Oct. 18

The 8th Annual Chattanooga Dances! concert will be presented in the Center for Creative Arts Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m. Chattanooga Dances! highlights the city’s non-profit dance companies along with those schools who maintain a full time dance department.

Companies appearing on this year’s concert will be Ballet Tennessee, Baylor’s Verve, Center for Creative Arts’ Project Motion, Chattanooga Ballet, Contrapasso, and GPS’s Terpsichord. In addition, this year’s concert will also feature independent CCA artists-in-residence Cinnamon Halbert-Smith, Ann Law, and Jessica Laliberte-Bowman.

The evening will showcase Chattanooga’s diverse dance community in works ranging from ballet to modern to jazz choreography. Tickets are $5 and available at the door. For more information call 209-5942.

This year’s Chattanooga Dances! concert is held in conjunction with the Tennessee Association of Dance Statewide Conference to be held at Center for Creative Arts. The CCA Dance Department will once again host the Tennessee Association of Dance annual statewide conference Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19. This weekend of dance classes, seminars, lectures and performances brings internationally known master teachers to work with Tennessee students. Technique classes are offered for intermediate level and above dancers in ballet, modern, jazz, ballroom, hip-hop, dance conditioning, yoga, musical theater, tap, and contact improvisation. Lunchtime and evening performances will highlight both Chattanooga and other Tennessee dancers. In addition there are seminars on careers in dance, massage therapy for dancers, the National Dance Education Organization, dance licensure in Tennessee public schools, as well as attending college as a dance major. The Conference will bring approx 300 people to CCA to take part in this exciting weekend of dance.
