Police Blotter: Armed Robbery At The Brainerd Family Dollar
posted October 6, 2008

An assistant manager at the Family Dollar at 3536 Brainerd Road said he was robbed at gunpoint while several customers were in the store.

Kevin Greenwood said he was in the back of the store when a black male came up and asked if he was the manager. He said the man then asked for sparkle glue, and he showed him where it was.

He said he went to the office to watch the man on video to see if he was shoplifting. He said the man then came towards the office and pulled a black handgun on him.

The robber forced him into the office and had him lie down on the floor. He said they were in the office about 15 minutes and the man told him his "plan". He said it included him giving the robber his wallet, phone and work keys. The man removed $200 from the wallet.

He then forced the assistant manager to the safe and cash registers. Money was removed from all of those. About $600 was taken in all.

The robber then fled, but not before getting the store video.

He was described as in his early 20s, 5'7"-5'10" and 140 pounds. He was wearing a dark-colored hat and big dark sunglasses.

Officers gave chase to two suspects and took one - Sterling Sheet - into custody. He said he had been waiting for a ride with Deanna Leamon.

She pulled up and officers put her and Sheet in the back of a patrol car. Officers were able to listen as the two discussed "getting their story straight."

Officers found bolt cutters and other tools next to the ice business.

Sheet was taken into custody.
