The Qualifications To Run For Mayor Seem Clear posted October 6, 2008 After reading the election commission's ruling on Mr. Healy, I looked up the City Charter and found: "Sec. 8.27. Qualifications of mayor. No person shall be elected to the office of mayor unless he or she has been a resident of the city of Chattanooga for at least one year prior to his or her election and unless he or she shall be at least 30 years of age." Is it possible to get a copy of the charter that either Jerry Summers, City Attorney Randy Nelson and State Election Coordinator Brook Thompson used to reach their decision? Or maybe tell us whose closet it is kept in. Another possibility is that the city of Chattanooga charter is written on a 'Magic Slate' similar to one I had as a child.
