Two-Week Basic Police Motorcycle School Ends Oct. 10 posted October 6, 2008 The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is hosting a two-week Basic Police Motorcycle training at the West Annex located at 6233 Dayton Blvd. The school started Sept. 29, and will continue through Oct. 10, with several different area agencies attending. The objectives of the course are that officers will learn basic motorcycle skills that develop coordination, balance control and the confidence necessary for proficient operation and to familiarize them with the handling characteristics of the police motorcycle. Officers attending will be provided traffic experience and riding techniques required to safely operate a motorcycle as an enforcement vehicle. The training will also include escort duties, traffic stops and speed enforcement both radar and vehicle pace. A training course has been set up on the front parking lot of the West Annex. All attending officers must be in good physical condition as the course is physically demanding. Sgt. Mark Kimsey who is assigned to the Traffic Division with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is the instructor for this training. Each officer will receive the Institute for Police Technology and Management Publication "Police Motorcycle Training Manual." |
