BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has chosen Dr. Robert Mandel as its senior vice president of health care services.
Dr. Mandel assumed his responsibilities on Oct. 1, and will report directly to Joan Harp, president of BlueCross' commercial business and established markets business unit.
His responsibilities include overall clinical strategy, transformative medical management delivery, and clinical network operations for the company's commercially insured members.
Ms. Harp said, "Dr. Mandel's passion and commitment toward improving the health care delivery system matches our own drive and persistence in creating a unique consumer-based experience. His addition to our team places us in the best possible position to meet current and anticipated challenges and opportunities."
Dr. Mandel brings more than 11 years of senior leadership experience in health systems and health plan management to the Tennessee Blues Plan. He most recently served as vice president of health care services for BlueCross BlueShield of Massachusetts.
Dr. Mandel holds degrees from Princeton University, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as the American College of Physician Executives.
