MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Soddy-Daisy sophomore Haley Cothran shot a 75 here Tuesday and tied for third after the first round of the Class AAA state golf tournament.
Playing at the Old Fort Course, Cothran trails Houston’s Natalie Mitchell (71) and Rossview’s Catherine Smith (74).
Tied for third with Cothran, the District 6 and Region 3 champion, was Hardin County’s Ashley Haggard.
The Soddy-Daisy girls finished at 157, only four shots behind Rossview (153) in the team competition.
Lexi Stewart shot an 82 for the Soddy-Daisy Lady Trojans.
In the boys competition, Farragut leads the team competition at 295, followed by Houston (299), Hendersonville (304) and Walker Valley (309).
Cory Gaylord from Houston leads the boys individual play at 68, followed by Mason Griffin from Oak Ridge at 69.
McMinn County’s Ryne Thompson trails the leader by five shots.
The final round will be played here Wednesday.
