Upcoming Activities In The County Schools posted October 8, 2008 Here are upcoming activities in the county schools: Thursday, 10/9/08, 7:30 a.m. Brown Academy International Walk to School Day. Brown Academy, an IB Candidate School, is an elementary school with a global perspective. Thursday October 9, 2008, students, teachers, staff, parents, and community partners will meet at UTC’s Chamberlain Field on the grassy knoll of “The Hill” which is the central point of the campus. Everyone is invited to the International walk to school event. This event decreases traffic, improves health, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. More information about this International event can be found at www.walktoschool.org. Media should arrive between 7:15 a.m.-8 a.m. Contact: 2) Success Celebration. East Lake elementary, Thursday, 10/9/08 1-3 p.m. The Eastlake community is invited to a celebration of the school’s AYP Good Standing this year (first time in 5 years). 3) EVERGREEN: Gail Fernandez was awarded with the Tennessee Association for Gifted (TAG) Gifted Teacher of the Year in September. Gail works at Smith and Snowhill elementary schools and has been providing services for gifted kids for more than 23 years. 4) Ooltewah HS International Student Media Fair Winners. OHS students participated in the Association for Educational Communications and Technology annual media fair. The top 1% are honored as Best of the Festival. Students enter projects in spring with judging occurring over summer. OHS students had a Best of Festival prize (for Stephanie Shelton’s video about the aquarium), (6) judges favorites (including a documentary about Uganda by Harrison Given and photos by Morgan Hardy, Hollie Whitener, Kadi Rodgers, Kelsea McCormick, Ashley Walsh) and several winners. Students will be honored at annual convention in November. 5) McBrien ES, Oct. 31, 8:30-11:15. Mock School Election. The McBrien Investigators Club (gifted students) is holding a mock school presidential election. The polls will be open for almost three hours for students to vote. 6) Normal Park Museum Magnet School has been designated as a John F. Kennedy School of Distinction in Arts Education. They are one of 5 schools in the country to receive this designation this year (CCA received it two years ago). |
