Joel R. Meeks Sr., 53, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late James Nolan Meeks and Lois May Smythe. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a great musician and it was his passion. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Ann Meeks; two sons, Rick Meeks II and his wife, Michelle, Chris Meeks and his wife, Jill, all of Chickamauga; six sisters and brothers, Sheila Clark, Hal Meeks, Gary Meeks, Anthony Meeks, Bruce Meeks and Janice Croslin; 12 grandchildren, Joe Meeks, Brandon Meeks, Sissy Meeks, Preston Meeks, Kristen Meeks, Richard Morgan Nave, Leigh Browning, Chris Browning, Jamie Williams, Justin Newsome, Gabriel Newsome and Jessica Newsome; one great-granddaughter, Anabelle Williams; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, in the J. Avery Bryan chapel of Wilson Funeral Home with Brother Barry Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Chickamauga City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-9 p.m. on Friday, and prior to the service Saturday.
