The basic elements of mobility engineering, and the fun that goes along with learning those principles, are on the agenda for area middle school students this school year.
The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga is offering a 20-week after-school technology program held, beginning Nov. 3 through April 2, 2009. This program will be held each week from Monday through Thursday between 3–5:30 p.m. at the Urban League Complex located at 730 Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Area students in grades 6th – 8th are eligible to enroll and encouraged to participate. The weekly tuition to enroll in this enrichment program is $25, which includes an Urban League family membership.
During the five-month program, a team of Hamilton County educations and UTC students will teach students how to use a fuel cell and robotics technology curriculum developed by Carnegie Mellon University. The curriculum fosters students' interest in engineering, scientific and technical education. Students will also be exposed to educational opportunities in the areas of art and physical education.
The Urban League's Engineering Program brings math and science principles to life through highly interactive learning experiences that incorporate renewable energy, the laws of physics, robotics, flight, and electronics. All activities are designed to bring authentic engineering design experiences to the after school classroom.
