Unity In The Community Adopt-A-Block Continues Oct. 11
posted October 9, 2008

Unity in the Community: Connecting All Year Long will continue its year-long adopt-a-block program in the East Lake community on Saturday.

Volunteers will gather at the Salvation Army at 2140 East 28th Street at 10 a.m. to meet East Lake residents, distribute information regarding available social services in the area, collect trash, and discover community needs for future service projects.

Al Chapman, director of faith based initiatives and community partnerships for the City of Chattanooga, said, "This is bigger than the City of Chattanooga and this is bigger than the Salvation Army. 'Unity in the Community' has created an umbrella of over 30 agencies from across the city to address community needs in East Lake."

Missy Crutchfield, administrator of the City of Chattanooga Department of Education, Arts & Culture said, "Mayor Littlefield envisions Chattanooga as a city of compassion, and part of the driving vision of EAC is to 'Connect the Dots' and build sustainable, replicable partnerships for change. 'Unity in the Community: Connecting All Year Long' takes that to the next level."

Over 40 volunteers turned out for the Unity in the Community workday on Sept. 13. Volunteers are once again encouraged to be a part of this ongoing opportunity to give back and connect with the community.
